Department of History:

Founded in 1949, the Department of History i.e. since the inception of the University has strived to create a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research. Aligning with the developments at both Faculty as well as University level, the Department has evolved itself and is recognised as one of the leading departments in historical studies in Gujarat.

Vision
The Department of History aims to train the students in not only understating the historical past but also to present it in the context of the present. The whole process is carried out through teaching, research and extension activities. We believe that multidisciplinary is essential for the growth of the historical field and therefore aim to continuously update our course structure. This will encourage a large number of researchers from other fields to collaborate with us and lead the research in a new direction.
