Department of Sociology:

The Department of Sociology in The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda came into existence in June 1951, with the Late Professor M. N. Srinivas as its founder Head. During the last seventy years, the department has grown and it has built a name for itself in this part of the country. Throughout its long period of existence, the department has had its share of years of progress and it has been able to build and maintain its reputation as a leading Department of Sociology in the country.

The syllabi for various courses are revised from time to time with a view to bringing them at par with those suiting to the contemporary academic demands. At the post-graduate level, there is an emphasis on both theoretical and empirical materials.

The Department has instituted the M. N. Srinivas Scholarship for PG students, and the I.P. Desai Scholarship for UG students. The Gift Book Collection Library is a unique feature of the department. It is a collection of books, gifted by students, teachers and other donors.
