The University Department of Banking and Insurance is the premier Department devoted exclusively to teaching, advanced research, extension and consultancy in the areas of Banking and Insurance. Department offers two year M.Com. degree programme, One year P.G.Diploma in Banking and at U.G. level as an elective subjects.The Department have also started a Professional self-Finance P.G.Diploma in Banking and Insurance (PGDBI) course. The compulsory internship programme for all students admitted in Post-Graduation Programmes, is an integral part of the course curriculum. The compulsory practical training system helps students in preparing for middle-level professional positions in Banks and other financial institutions. Research Programmes are also provided for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the subject.

This is perhaps the only University department in the country where learning facilities are offered for specialization in the field of Banking and Parabanking sectors  . The Doctoral Research Programme of the Department attracts brilliant scholars not only from within the country but also from foreign countries. So far 22 scholars have already been awarded Ph.D. Degree.

The Department has direct linkages with banks and insurance companies which are actively involved in academic and research activities. Local banks recognize the Banking courses by giving priority in recruitment and promotion to our students.
