Department of Dramatics:

The Department of Dramatics is a foremost constituent of the Faculty of Performing Arts, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, established in 1950. It is one of the pioneer theatre departments imparting training at the Univrsity level offering UG , PG Degree and Ph.D Programme in Dramatics as also a two year diploma in the subject. It has nurtured a number of aspiring artists wanting to pursue theatre arts as a profession. The potential training is towards creative performing artists, production/technical designers, academicians who are able to respond to changing times of the contemporary society. The course structure is designed to foster creative and intuitive abilities and the student is encourage to experiment with different theatre techniques in Acting & Productions where by attaining a systematic understanding of the art and science of theatre.

The Department has also acted as a protagonist and catalyst in the societal commitments and development through its varied activities and programmes. The goal is to train students not only in the performing skills but also in their mental and intellectual activities so as to become aware of critical ideas and understand the philosophy of contemporary arts and life. Our endeavour is to form a bridge between the conventional and most modern, keeping close to the basics which evolved over centuries and connecting them to present day modern applications.
