Kalabhavan - Where He'art meets Engineering

Welcome to the Faculty of Technology & Engineering, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda!
The Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE) is a premier institution for engineering education in the state of Gujarat and is committed to excellence in technical education. This Faculty as it stands today was established in the year 1941. Prior to this, it started as what was then popularly known as the Kala Bhavan Technical Institute (KBTI) established in June 1890 by late His Highness the Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda State.

Since then this Faculty has been a seat of technical education and advanced studies and has grown to  a level that today it is imparting technical education in almost all the major branches of engineering like Applied Mechanics, Architecture, Chemical, Civil, Computers, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Textile Chemistry, Textile Engineering & Water Resources  to more than 3500 students every year, coming from various parts of the country through its well-developed fourteen departments that includes three applied sciences departments namely Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics.

We believe in overall development of our students and so besides academics, the undergraduate students in this Faculty  organize  and participate in extra-curricular activities like Footprints, Prerna & Paramarsh  that  provides them with an ideal platform to display their hidden talents and skills apart from academics. Such opportunity is given to our students not only on-campus but off-campus as well. Our students regularly participate at the Asia’s biggest cultural festival ‘Mood Indigo’ organized by Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai,  every year.

The students and teachers of our Faculty are actively engaged in the latest research areas including nanoscience, besides teaching and learning. The faculty members at FTE are getting research projects and funds for research & laboratory development from almost all the government funding agencies like UGC, AICTE, DST, MHRD, CSIR, DAE, BRNS, ONGC, GUJCOST, UNDP, USAID, etc leading to development of highly sophisticated research facilities in various laboratories of its departments. The Faculty also boasts of "Centres of Excellence" in the areas like Polymers for automobile applications, Industrial Mathematics, ANCHOR Institute for skilled manpower development in textiles and a full fledged Master of Engineering programe sponsored by the engineering giant L&T.

We have a close interaction with the industries and R & D laboratories in and around Va-dodara. The ‘Centre of Excellence in Industrial Automation’ supported by M/s Siemens India Ltd. is one of its kind in the country. With an intension of giving back to the society, various departments of the Faculty offer testing and consultancy services to industries on a regular basis using state of art facilities available on the campus.

The compound effect of the academic and infrastructural growth of the Faculty over the years has resulted in publication of a large number of research papers in the journals of national & international repute and also in producing PhDs in various branches of engineering and applied sciences.

We have close linkages with our past students through the Alumni Associations at department level as well as at the Faculty level. Some of our illustrious alumni are Late Shri Dada Saheb Phalke, Late Shri Amarsinh Chaudhary, Dr. Jaynarayan Vyas, Dr. S. S. Mantha, Shri Amit Shah, Dr. Vishal Sikka, Shri Ajay Bhatt to name a few who continue to inspire us and some who also actively participate in guiding the Faculty to newer heights.

I see a very bright future for the Faculty of Technology & Engineering  as well as for our students in times to come and wish them good luck in their future endeavours.
