KALABHAVAN Where Design Thinking Converges into Creative Engineering   Welcome to the Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE), The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, NAAC A+ Accredited—one of India's oldest and most distinguished institutions for engineering education, innovation, research, and professional excellence.

Our journey began in June 1890 with the establishment of the Kala Bhavan Technical Institute (KBTI) by the visionary ruler His Highness Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, who believed that education was the foundation of a progressive society. Established in its present form in 1949, the FTE has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of industry, society, and the nation while preserving the rich legacy of Kalabhavan, where HeArt Meets Engineering.

Today, the FTE educates more than 3,500 students through fourteen academic departments offering undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and professional programmes in various branches of engineering and applied sciences. In response to emerging technological and industrial needs, the FTE has recently introduced the B.E. in Aerospace Engineering program. The degree programmes for Working Professionals in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering, provide diploma holders with opportunities to upgrade their qualifications while continuing their professional careers. The FTE is committed to academic excellence through the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the transformative vision of the NEP2020. The NAAC A+ accreditation of MSU and NBA accreditation received by several undergraduate engineering programmes reflect our unwavering commitment to quality education, continuous improvement, and global standards of engineering education.

Beyond academics, we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals. Students actively organize and participate in flagship events such as Footprints, Prerna and Paramarsh, while regularly representing the FTE at prestigious national technical and cultural events. These experiences cultivate leadership, creativity, teamwork, communication skills, and social responsibility. Vision 2020 incubator program launched by alumni and various students’ clubs allows students to hone and express their faculties in co-curricular and extra-curricular domains.

Research, innovation, and knowledge creation remain central to our mission. Faculty members undertake cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience, advanced materials, renewable energy, nanotechnology, smart manufacturing, water resources, digital engineering, and several other emerging domains. Research funding from agencies such as UGC, AICTE, DST, CSIR, DAE, BRNS, ISRO, ONGC and GoG, has enabled the creation of world-class laboratories and advanced research facilities. The FTE houses several Centers of Excellence exemplifying our commitment to Industry 4.0 technologies and application-oriented engineering education.

Strong partnerships with industries, government organizations, research laboratories, and international institutions provide students with valuable opportunities for internships, live projects, consultancy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaborative research. The campus development and strengthening of learning centers are in continuous progress with active support from industries under CSR and from alumni individually and under the aegis of VISION2020.

Looking ahead, the FTE is strengthening interdisciplinary education, international collaborations, digital transformation, sustainable engineering practices, innovation ecosystems, and entrepreneurship to create globally competent engineers and researchers. We are committed to producing professionals who combine technical excellence with creativity, ethical values, leadership, environmental consciousness, and a lifelong passion for learning.
