Welcome to the Faculty of Fine Arts!

Formalized in 1949, the Faculty of Fine Arts is a premier institution of art education at the post-secondary level. It is home to the following departments and specializations: Applied Arts, Art History and Aesthetics, Graphic Arts, Museology, Painting, and Sculpture. In 2013, the Faculty of Fine Arts expanded its course offerings and operations through the addition of the Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad Institute of Design (MRID). At MRID, students can avail of course offerings in Craft and Design, Communication Design, Accessory Design, Ceramic & Glass, and Moving Images. Collectively, there are about 500 students actively registered for taught programmes.Through the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR; under the Government of India) and other exchange programs/fellowships, we extend our teaching and learning practices to international students as well.

With apedagogical paradigm that embraces multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches; our aim is to expand students’ learning goals and opportunities. As well, through our natural light studios that blend theory and practice, we strive towards creating an enthusiastic, positive, and vibrant environment that fosters experimentation and expression of creative ideas in emerging artists.

In addition to the education we impart, we also take pride in our alumni who are symbols of excellence in art; Prof. Markand Bhatt, N.S. Bendre, Pradosh Das, Shanko Chudhury, Dr.Moti Chandra, K.G. Subrahmanyam, Gulam Muhammad Shaikh, Jyoti Bhatt, Ratan Parimo, Nazreen Muhammadi, Jyotsna Bhatt, Nelima Sheikh are some of our many celebrated alumni.
