Education: Dr. Shankar Subbanarasayya Mantha is an alumnus of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and VJTI, Mumbai, is former Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
He joined AICTE in 2009 as its vice-chairman. He took over as the acting chair of AICTE in 2009, when the then chairman RA Yadav was suspended by the Union HRD ministry due to corruption charges.
In 2012, he was elevated as the chair of AICTE, where he spent six years conceiving and implementing e-governance reforms to allow for a transparent administration. Mantha worked as Professor of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Department of Mechanical Engineering at VJTI for more than two decades. He is currently professor emeritus at VJTI.
He has more than 260 publications in national and international journals and conference proceedings and has contributed over 200 articles on education and administration to publications, including The Indian Express, LiveMint, Lokmat, and Businessworld, among others.
He is also a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering.
Biography: Dr. Shankar Subbanarasayya Mantha was born on 18 July 1954 into a middle class Telugu Brahmin family, and grew up in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and earned a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from VJTI, Mumbai.
He also served as President National Board of Accreditation and as Pro-Vice Chancellor, SNDT Women's University, Mumbai. He has implemented several initiatives which promoted transparency and accountability.
He is currently working as Chancellor, KL University, and Adjunct Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru. He heads the National Technical Committee, National Cyber Safety, and Security Standards (NSSSC)
He was the former Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), statutory body, and a national-level council for technical education, under the Department of Higher Education. He served as president of the National Board of Accreditation and as deputy vice-chancellor of the SNDT Women's University, Mumbai.
