Shrimati Hansa Mehta Library, the University Library of M S University of Baroda was established on May 1, 1950 and present building establishment year is 1957. At the time of establishment of the M. S. University of Baroda, a collection of 25,000 books belonging to the two State Libraries (Huzur Political Office and Secretariat Library) was handed over to the University Library. There were several colleges in Baroda - Baroda College (for Arts), Science Institute, Commerce College, and Secondary Teacher’s Training College etc. These colleges had libraries of their own. These libraries continued to remain as Faculty Libraries and were administered independently. Thus the University Library System was established on 01-05-1950, which was housed in the central block of Old Residency Office Building. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, then the President of India laid down the Foundation stone of Smt. Hansa Mehta Library of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda on 16th November 1954. |
Prof. T. K. Gajjar Library:

Polytechnic Library:
Polytechnic Institute has its own Library connected with University Library System for Diploma Engineering Students. There are several branches like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, etc. There are various types of Books collection pertaining to the engineering field.The Polytechnic Library was established in 1957.Carpet area of this Library is 425.59 square meter. Seating capacity of the Library is 150 users at a time.Recently one more Reading hall is allotted upstairs of the library building for library extention purpose,which is going to start within short time.The Books collection of the Library is classified as per British Library Classification system. |
Library has a close access system for students and open access for the Teachers. We have applied computerized Library automation system of SOUL (Soft ware for University Libraries) which is designed and developed by the INFLIBNET.
Library services like Books transaction as well registration is done through SOUL software.Reprographic facility is available in the building near library. Library collection caters to the need of users by issuing and receiving of books. We issue 3 books for 30 days to the students and 8 books for one year to the teachers. We receive revenue grants for books and periodicals.
Title of books and journals are selected for purchase by the teachers of respective departments and recommended by the Head of the departments. The on-line and internet services are available in Smt. Hansa Mehta Library (University Library) for all the students and teachers of the University. The Library remains open from 8.00 a.m. to 6.10 p.m. except Sundays and holidays. We have centralized library system and all policies are discussed in the library committee approved by the syndicate. Approximately Rs.1,16,000/- amount is spent per year during last five years.
Students and the teachers comes to know the new arrivals by using soul system of online public access catalogue as well by the current awareness service personally to the users as well as at the time of engineering projects and campus interview teachers and students are catered through selective dissemination of information of particular pin-point topics on the basis of existing books and reference materials along with new library acquisitions and arrivals. Readers are also informed by the staff regarding their need of new books.
The Library is located on ground floor in the building therefore it is most convenient to help visually challenged and physically challenged persons on their demand to full-fill their needs.The library users are constantly under the surveillance of the cameras including free wi-fi internet facility across the college building premises. The Library automation is done since last ten years and the old manual systems of library tickets is replaced by the smart cards.Through quick scaning of barcode the time of users also can be saved with quality service. Each student has his/her own separate Member Code and each book has its one individual Bar-code.

Our Faculty of Management Studies, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda has its own library, which was started in 1984, Our Faculty Library is situated in 1000 sq fit areas., it has got Wi-Fi facilities with digital books facilities. Performing Arts Library:
Faculty of Performing Arts Library was established in 1953, total no. of books at the library are 16270, total no. of journals are 10, a total computer is 02 and staff members working at library is 02. In the faculty itself various departments has their own collection of more than 2000 titles, are accessible to the students, scholars and the teaching staff. Some of the books are very rare in nature acquired from different sources including the books from erstwhile Baroda state and other places. Some of the books were being donated by various donors.

Water Resources Engineering and Management Institute Library:
Water Resources Engineering and Management Institute (WREMI) has a departmental library, since its inception. The area of library is 125 sq.m with proper arrangement of books and seating arrangement (50 students). The library consists of 3033 books including national and international publishers, various technical volumes and numerous IS Codes, pertaining to Irrigation water Management and Water Resources Engineering and Management. Every year minimum 75 to 80 books are procured, which includes new and also latest edition of previously procured books. The library also includes Hard bound copies of undergraduate projects, Post graduate projects, Dissertation thesis and Ph.D. thesis. The library is equipped with Wi-Fi facility. With more than 17000 books , it is a large and assorted collection of legislations (Bare Acts and Commentaries), text books, reference books, journals, magazines and newspapers. It is huge resource storehouse of knowledge for the students and teachers alike. Also available at the library are a plethora of thesis, dissertations and Memorials of the studies conducted by students and Alumni of the Faculty. Apart from access to the e-journals of the Hansa Mehta Library, Faculty library also has a subscription of law Journals and database.
Quiet, spacious, well- illuminated, well -ventilated infrastructure and well-appointed modern furniture ensures better ergonomics for the users. The state-of-the-art library software facilitates the smooth and hassle-free process of issuance and collection of books from the students.
At the Faculty of Law’s library, no stone is left unturned to provide an enriching experience to the students in the process of gaining knowledge.
