BIODATA OF HON'BLE CHANCELLOR - Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad

Her Highness Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad of Baroda was born on 24th February, 1945 into a noble Maratha family of Gwalior.

After completing preliminary education in Nainital, she graduated with Honors in History, English Literature, and Economics from Lucknow University.

H.H. Shubhanginiraje married Shrimant Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad of Baroda and they are blessed with three children: Alaukikaraje, Anjanaraje, and Samarjitsinh.

Through her life, Rajmata Saheb has been active in preserving and restoring several aspects of Baroda's history and culture.

She has worked with teachers and students and strongly advocates universal, free primary education for all adults and children, with special emphasis on the girl child. She has actively engaged with several social service organizations, especially those focused on women welfare and their social and economic empowerment, and has held positions such as:

• President of Mahila Sahakari Bank (1986-1998)
• Co-Chairperson of Family Planning & Social Welfare Committee, FICCI, New Delhi (1999-2001)
• Trustee of Sir Sayajirao Diamond Jubilee & Memorial Trust
• President and Trustee of Maharani Shantadevi Hospital (National Award winner for 'Child Friendly Hospital') (1979-2013)
• President of Maharani Chimnabai Stree Udyogalaya
• President of Maharaja Fatesingh Museum Trust
• President of Swar-Vilas (one of the oldest organizations in Gujarat promoting Hindustani Classical Music)

Rajmata Saheb is actively interested in sustainable development, where environmental protection and improvement are essential. She is:

• President of Society for Clean Environment (SOCLEEN)
• Member of World Wide Fund for Nature - India

Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Saheb is the Chancellor of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.

She is also appointed as a member of the First Court of Gati Shakti Vishvavidyalaya by the Ministry of Railways, Government of India.

She is an avid traveler and keeps herself updated with current socio-political events.

She has worked actively in reviving dying weaving traditions of royal textiles, particularly Chanderi sarees, and has received several accolades, including Lifetime Achievement Award (2018) from CDS Foundation, Ahmedabad.
