Justice Nusservanji K. Vakil was born on 17th May 1908 at Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He graduated with a B.A. from the Elphinstone College, Bombay in 1929 and passed the L.L.B. Examination from the Government law College, Bombay, in 1931.nJustice N.K. Vakil started practice in 1931 at Surat and soon established reputation as an able Advocate on the Civil as well as Criminal side. He was attached to the Sarvajanik Education Society of Surat, managing Colleges and Schools, for many years as member of the Managing and Executive Committees and its President. He was also a part-time Lecturer at the Law College in Surat and was President for ten years of the Board of Trustees of Parsi Charity Funds and Properties at Surat, running and managing institutions such as Polytechnic Institute, primary and secondary schools and Orphanages for boys and girls. In 1946 he was the President of the Surat Rotary Club and later an honorary member of the Surat and Baroda Rotary Club. He organized City Civil, Small Cause and City Magistrates Courts in Ahmadabad in 1961 and was appointed the first Principal Judge of the City Civil Court in same year. After a successful career on the Bench, he retired as a prominent Judge of the Gujarat High Court in 1970. He was elected as Vice-Chancellor of The M.S. University of Baroda in April 1970 and he assumed charge of the Office in May 1970. He was re-elected as the Vice-Chancellor from May 1973, for another term of three years but, unfortunately, he passed away on 4th May 1974.nFrom 1971 to 1974 he was President of the Indian University Association for Continuing Education. He was also a member of various other committees and boards such as the Standing Committee of the Inter-University Board of India, now known as the Indian Law Institute; the Governing Council of the Indian Law Institute; the National Council of Educational Research and Training; the Committee for Higher Education in the state; the Working Group for Education and Manpower Planning of the State Government; Sports Board of the Inter-University Board of India, Governing Board of the Council of Economic Understanding and Development, the Standing Advisory Committee of the University Grants Commission for Adult Education and various other State Government Committees. He was the Chairman of the Advisory Board under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act, 1971 and Patron of the Youth Hostels Association of India.
