1. Introduction & Scope

ClassLens is an automated attendance system designed for use by educational institutions. By utilizing the ClassLens application, you explicitly consent to the collection, processing, and secure storage of your data as outlined in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

• Personal Information: We collect standard academic identification details including your name, email address, roll number/PRN, and department.
• Device & Camera Data: The application requires camera permissions to capture registration selfies (for students) and live classroom photographs (for teachers).
• Biometric Data (Facial Vector Embeddings): We extract facial features from your registration selfie to generate a mathematical representation, specifically a 512-dimensional vector. This vector is used solely to identify you in classroom photos to automate attendance logging.
• Usage Data: We collect session data and push notification tokens via Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to facilitate application functionality.

3. How We Process and Store Your Data

• Processing: Classroom photos uploaded by teachers are securely processed on our backend servers using advanced deep-learning models to match detected faces against stored biometric vectors.
• Storage: Facial vector embeddings and personal information are securely stored within our PostgreSQL database.
• Annotated Images: Original classroom photos may be temporarily retained and annotated with bounding boxes to allow teachers to visually verify the accuracy of automated attendance on their dashboards.

4. How We Use Your Information

• To accurately automate and log daily classroom attendance.
• To send real-time push notifications regarding attendance status.
• To enable administrators to manage academic schedules and institutional records.
• Explicit Denial: Your biometric data and personal information are never used for marketing, never used for tracking outside the ClassLens application, and are never sold to third parties.

5. Third-Party Services

• Google Play Services / Google ML Kit: Utilized for underlying on-device processing to ensure application stability.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): Used strictly for delivering real-time push notifications regarding attendance.

6. Data Retention & Deletion Policy

• Retention Period: Biometric data and facial vector embeddings are retained only for the duration of the student's active enrollment at the institution or until the account is formally deleted.
• Right to Deletion: Students possess the right to request complete deletion of their account and associated biometric data. Deletion requests can be initiated by contacting the system administrator or utilizing the in-app deletion features.

7. Security Measures

All data transmitted between the mobile application and our servers is secured using HTTPS/SSL encryption. Furthermore, database access is strictly restricted to authorized educational personnel operating through the administrative dashboard.
